50 JAHRE WOODSTOCK AUF RADIO FR

Am Donnerstag, 15. August, bin ich von 10 bis 12 Uhr Gast im Studio von Radio fr. und gebe Auskunft über das Festival. Wir werden auch darüber sprechen, was am Montag in meiner Sendung zu hören sein wird.

Am Montag, 19. August, gibt es dann ab 20 Uhr das grosse, dreistündige Woodstock Special im Rahmen von Wop Bop A Loo Bop.

Ich habe mich mit Musikern, Journalisten, Konzertveranstaltern etc. unterhalten und es erwartet euch eine spannende Sendung zum Thema. Natürlich mit viel Musik.
Einen Schwerpunkt bildet das ausführliche Gespräch, welches ich mit Bobby Leiser führte. Er ist einer der ganz wenigen Schweizer, die in Woodstock dabei waren und zwar sogar backstage.
Zu Wort kommen aber auch Schöre Müller, Boris Pilleri, Däne Stöckli, Toni Vescoli, Wale Liniger, Hank Shizzoe, Stefania Kaye, Rick Vito, Sam Mumenthaler, Patrick Linder, Andreas Werner, Martin Schäfer und Jüre Hofer.

Hier noch einige Fakten zum Festival.

“3 days of peace and music” war das Motto

Es fand vom 15. – 17. August 1969 in White Lake, Bethel, NY, 70 km vom ursprünglich geplanten Veranstaltungsort Woodstock statt.

An den 3 Tagen besuchten geschätzte 400’000 Leute das Festival. Die genaue Zahl konnte nie eruiert werden, da ab einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt die Besucher ohne Tickets auf das Areal gelassen wurden.

Der Dokumentarfilm «Woodstock» erhielt einen Oskar und gilt als einer der erfolgreichsten Dokumentarfilm aller Zeiten. Er trug massgeblich zum Mythos Woodstock bei.,

Wer wieso nicht dabei war.

Bei den Beatleswollte John Lennon nicht ohne die Plastic Ono Band kommen. Das lehnte die Veranstalter ab.

Bei den Doorswollte Jim Morrison keine Openairs mehr spielen.

Bob Dylansagte nach Verhandlungen, angeblich wegen Erkrankung seines Sohnes, ab.

Iron Butterflywollten unbedingt einen Helikopter, der ihnen aber nicht zugesprochen wurden.

Led Zeppelinspielten an diesem Weekend bereits in New Jersey.

Joni Mitchell trat lieber in einer TV-Show von Dick Cavett auf. Sie schrieb aber dann den Song Woodstock

Die Rolling Stoneskonnten nicht kommen, da Mick Jagger für Dreharbeiten zum Film Ned Kelly in Australien war.

Die Moody Blues hatten eigentlich zugesagt, dann aber ein besseres Angebot aus Paris erhalten.

Festivals vor und nach Woodstock

Es gab schon vor Woodstock Festivals.

Das Monterey Pop Festivalwurde 1967 durchgeführt und konnte ebenfalls mit einem grossartigen Line-up überzeugen. Rund 90’000 Personen besuchten das Festival.

(Johnny Rivers, Eric Burdon, Simon & Garfunkel, Canned Heat, Janis Joplin, Al Kooper, Paul Butterfield, Steve Miller, Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, Booker T.

Otis Redding, Bufalo Springfield, Who, Greatful Dead, Jimi Handrix, Mamas & Papas)

Im Frühling 1968veranstaltet der Woodstock Veranstalter Michael Lang das Miami Pop Festival ebenfalls mit grossen Stars für rund 100’000 Personen.

Und ebenfalls noch vor Woodstock, vom 1.-3. August 1969,  fand das Atlantic City Pop Festivalstatt, welches rund 150’000 Leute anlockte und ebenfalls mit einem Super-Line-up aufwartete. (Canned Heat, Booker T., Chicago, CCR, Delaney, Bonnie & Friends, Grand Funk, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, Johnny Winter, Led Zeppelin, Sir Douglas Quintett, Three Dog Night, B.B. King, Paul Butterfield, Dr. John, Little Richard, Santana, Procol Harum etc.)

Die Festival Idee wurde auch sofort nach Europa exportiert. 1968 fand bereits das erste Isle of White Festval statt, wo hauptsächlich englische Bands auftraten. Dieses Festival startete mit rund 20’000 Zuschauern und erlebte dann einen ungeheuren Popularitätsschub. Bereits 1970 kam über 600’000 Leute, also mehr als beim Woodstock Festival.

Es folgten Glastonburry 1970, Reading 1971 und Roskilde ebenfalls 1971. Festivals, die es heute noch gibt.

Während die Musikindustrie vor allem beim Verkauf der Tonträger särbelt, haben sich Festival gut entwickelt und erzielen regelmässig Besucherrekorde
